Weekend travel kit: Cottage Country Style Essentials

TGIF!  Cottage Country is calling and my favorite weekend vacation spot is in Ontario, Canada, surrounded by beautiful lakes, cottages, and nature.  I pack only the essentials for easy, laid back style that can take me from the boat to bar-be-que,  cottage to village.  I take a colorful swimsuit, shorts and t-shirt, cashmere sweater and jeans for chilly evenings, and accessorize with sporty sandals, hat, sunglasses, and camera-ready iPhone cover and carrying case like these from Gizmon, for all the moments I will want to remember come Monday morning when I am back in the city.  I tuck them all away in this faux python knapsack in bright turquoise.  All the pieces work together so that I can mix and match, and don’t over-pack.  Citrus pops of color, mixed with blues, and accented with silver touches, give classic pieces a style update.  It’s the weekend and I just want to swim, eat the most amazing ice cream from the local dairy, relax on the dock, read, and unwind.  It’s time to hit the road – be there in two hours.  Bliss!

Nautique Classique: Stripes are here to stay

I admit I am completely addicted to breton stripes and am afraid to count just how many striped items I have in my wardrobe.  I have tops, sweaters, button-down shirts, espadrilles, bikinis, shorts, and even pajamas.  Red and white, aquamarine and white, navy and white, black and white, enough to make me dizzy as if staring at a test pattern for too long.   They are my  go-to “uniform” and I always seem to find something new to add to the mix.  Stripes can be worn with florals, checks, solids, color-blocking, to work or play.  Young and old, regardless of sex, there are stripes for everyone in a multitude of styles and at all price points.   From the very french unisex fisherman’s sweater to the mod 60’s body-con dresses, this classic favorite is one of the top trends year after year, season after season.   If you are a little timid about actually wearing stripes, play with accessories from belts, to bags, iPad covers, to wallets, to give a graphic pop to your outfit.

My favorite brands that always have stripes in one form or another are J Crew, Gap and ASOS. These particular striped treats can all be found at J Crew for summer, where you can also find rash guards, passport covers, tank tops, dresses, graphic tees, and new color combinations.  Vive les stripes!
